Flower Arranging Demonstration

Last Monday evening, our club welcomed Eleanor Griffiths and her Mum;- Gill. Eleanor is an accomplished flower arranger and amongst other things a NAFAS area demonstrator, judge and teacher. Her passion for her art form shines through and I am not sure if any of our members were prepared for such an educational and highly entertaining evening.

Eleanor created several magnificent flower arrangements, in front of our eyes, explaining what she was doing and answering questions from the floor as she went along. While she was working Eleanor also had the capacity to regale the audience with amusing stories and anecdotes about amongst other things, exhibiting at Chelsea Flower Show, training to become a judge, and the highs and lows of competitive flower arranging.

For someone like me who is a “plop ’em in a vase” type of  person, the evening was a revelation. I found myself thinking perhaps I would buy some oasis!

The meeting was well attended by gardening club members and visitors and hopefully it will inspire many more members (both men and women) to enter their arrangements in the Summer Show, which this year takes place on the 14th August and has 7 classes of Floral Art.

All the arrangements that Eleanor made were put up for raffle at the end of the show, the difficulty was if you were a winner, which arrangement to choose! In the village I have spotted one arrangement looking just as beautiful as it did on the evening.

On Monday, members are invited to visit Elaine and Val’s gardens, starting at 2.00pm in Elaine’s garden. Our next monthly meeting is a trip to Bodnant Gardens on 10th June 2013.
